Diversifying Nigeria’s Ginger Production Beyond Kaduna

Diversifying Nigeria’s Ginger Production Beyond Kaduna 🌾
For decades, Nigeria’s ginger production has been concentrated in Kaduna. But with rising disease pressure, climate shifts, and growing market demand, this model is no longer sustainable.
At GACON Ltd., we are taking deliberate steps to change that.
As part of our ginger diversification project, we recently conducted a 6-day field training in Imo State— marking a key milestone in expanding ginger cultivation into new ecological zones and reducing production risk.
Our goal is simple:
Build a more resilient, geographically distributed ginger value chain across Nigeria.
During the training, we focused on five critical agronomic pillars:
✅ Precision land measurement for accurate planning
✅ Effective ginger seed treatment to prevent disease at source
✅ Raised bed planting for improved drainage and root health
✅ Performance-driven mulching for moisture retention and weed control
✅ Proper agrochemical use and timely farm inspections for quality output
This is more than a training program—it is a strategic shift.
By equipping our field teams to adapt proven techniques to local soil and climate conditions in Imo State, we are laying the foundation for sustainable expansion beyond traditional ginger zones.
Why it matters:
Diversifying production reduces risk, strengthens supply stability, and unlocks new opportunities for farmers and the wider ginger industry.
Proud of the team for stepping up and embracing this vision.
