Fonio known as Acha seeds is a small-grained cereal belonging to the Poaceae familiy. It is an ancient grain native to West Africa and one of the oldest cultivated grains, cherished for its nutritional value and resilience in dry condition. The plant grows to about 30-80cm tall, producing incredibly tiny seeds about 1.0-1.5mm in diameter, making it one of the smallest grains in the world. It is used for culinary purpose (baking, beverages), as nutritional supplement, Animal feed, health benefits due its medicinal properties such as promoting blood sugar control and supporting weight management due to its low glycemic index and high fibre content.
